Warning to Teens

The role that I play in presenting a warning to teens today is to obey authority. In the novel and especially in book three, Winston got tortured many times because he didn’t obey the first time he was told to do something. If he would have obeyed O’Brien when he was being interrogated he wouldn’t have gone through as much torture as he did. If you would just follow as you are told, everything will be alright. Disrespecting and not listening to authority will only lead to trouble later down the road.  Another warning to teens is to not be afraid to report people who commit wrong doings. The main job of young people is to help point out those who are committing things that are against the law. The youth should report a crime if they see one for example, thoughtcrime. Even if you find that your parents are doing something as bad as thoughtcrime, you must turn them in. You might think it’s immoral to turn in your own family but it’s for their sake. Who knows what could happen if they are not cured of their wicked thoughts? I believe that I am a very important figure in establishing these warnings to teens in the present day.

Society's Role

Society has no responsibility to preserve their own privacy. The responsibility only belongs to the Party and to the party only. Society is incapable of having their own duties. The party’s current agenda is all anyone needs. People don’t really need privacy, which is why I’m always watching. The main reason for the telescreens is to protect and watch over our citizens. With privacy, who knows the dark secrets someone could hide or what crimes society would commit. So no privacy is best for everyone’s sake. The only ones who are an exception are people who help execute the party’s plans. For example, an inner party member such as O’Brien. They are trusted beings who can handle being able to switch their telescreens on and off. Anyone outside the inner party therefore cannot be trusted because they haven’t ultimately proved their utmost loyalty to the party. The Party controls all and needs to stay in power.  The balance would be disturbed if people did as they pleased just because they wanted solitude. If society had any role in their own responsibilities the party wouldn’t be able to maintain their authority.  The only role society should have is to follow the policies of those who lead them.
